Art can be seen as an equation with diverse different components, one of them is allegory. Artists can lower some elements of this equation and can bring forward others. Artworks can have always all the elements, what changes from work to work is which element is mainly used. (...)
Even though controversial, the "original copies" of Von Ha were endorsed by the families of two artists, responsible for their spoils, but all sales must be reported. Paradoxically, all drawings copied by the artist must be cataloged by the Project Lenilson or Tarsila do Amaral Family.
Heist Films Entertainment, besides being the title of this exhibition, is the name of a cinematographic producer created by Gustavo von Ha to develop and distribute trailers of films that will never be made. TokyoShow [A Busca do Amor], Gasoline [Hollywood em Chamas], Gasoline 2 – Back to the fire [Hollywood em Chamas 2] and Paranormal [Garota Diabólica] have publicity pieces, professional actors and actresses, pages on Internet and on the social networks, DVDs distributed at pirated film stands and posters (...)
Reflections and mirrorings are recurrent subjects in my production; in this way I have deepened my investigation by means of some instruments that were widely used by artists starting in the Renaissance, such as the camera lucida, or even the copy by way of projections by concave mirrors, and the camera obscura. The appropriation of images becomes an inevitable subject, since one is working with reflections.
One of the most inventive artists, Gustavo von Ha, 34, never shied away from appropriations and reinterpretations of works of others to give life to his authorial vein. Among his most celebrated work is, for example, the distorted impression of Tarsila do Amaral and Leonilson’ s drawings, which could be enjoyed in its original form only when seen through a mirrored globe near to the images.
In Double Crossing, Gustavo Von Ha presents two series of artworks whose point in common is the investigation of the process or act of crossing. This inquiry takes place through a procedure of crossfading, used to consider the relation with the process for producing the image: the image/mirror that produces a sort of fusion between the “two sides.”
